DIY - SHIPLAP IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM
A laundry room, meaning a washer and dryer, is usually stuck in a basement or if its on the main floor, a closet. The laundry room in our condo was in the small mudroom off the garage. The washer and dryer were on pedestals so you didn't have to bend over to load the machines; however, there was no place to hang or fold clothes.

We decided on DIY shiplap. Joanna Gaines from the HGTV show Fixer Upper has made shiplap very popular and I wanted in on it. It adds a cottage feel to any space. Shiplap can be expensive, but there are a lot of how-to videos online to show you how to do a faux shiplap for less money.
First, we painted the walls white - the same colour as the shiplap. This will hide the old wall colour from showing between the pieces of shiplap.
Next, we bought 4 x 8 sheets of plywood (underlay) and had the store cut them into equal 7 7/8" strips giving us six 8 foot lengths of shiplap for each 4 x 8 sheet of plywood. Home Depot did this for free.
Then we started at the bottom and made sure the first piece of shiplap was level. It is also a good idea to check every piece as you go.
Continue to paint the edges of the shiplap as you go along because it is easier than trying to paint it after the shiplap is up. Nail and or glue each piece to the studs and use nickels as spacers - this gives you the look of shiplap.
Finally, prime the wood and paint it. If you tint the primer you will only need one top coat of paint. We used Benjamin Moore Simply White OC-117.

Dave built a shelve to place on top of the washer and dryer to use as a folding table. We added two upper cupboards for storage and installed a clothes rod between them to hang clothes to dry.
