DAN AND STEPH - A KID'S BATHROOM

Dan and Steph are a young professional couple with three kids: one girl age 11, and two boys ages 9 and 7. They want to update the kid’s bathroom. They have a limited budget and shy away from colour.

Usually when you renovate you make the space bigger, but in this case we are making the space smaller. We are removing the existing “built-in” tub and moving it over to eliminate the wasted floor space in the original design.It is a much better use of the existing space for this growing family because it adds a closet in the adjoining bedroom and a linen closet in the hall.

My design brings a fun, fresh and playful element to the space. We are keeping the space white, but bringing colour to things that are easy to change such as the shower curtain, the window treatment, towels, and hardware on the refurbished vanity. Once the clients feel more comfortable, they can add more colour by painting the walls a cheerful Benjamin Moore “pear green”!

This bathroom is designed with three kids in mind. The pattern on the floor tile hides the dirt; the three wicker baskets under the vanity provide storage for personal items; the towel bar gives them each their own spot to hang up their towel; they can pick their favourite colour of towel which might make them more responsible to keep it hung up – because everyone knows what colour their towel is!

Pam helped us think about the space differently. She provided a fun design for the kids but that fit with the style of our home. She thought of a creative way to provide a closet to a bed room that needed one and a linen closet to our home that didn't have one. Thank you for your help Pam.
